Sitting at Your Kitchen Table

Sitting at your kitchen table you might think your world is small.  The chair you sit on, the table in front of you, the view through the window – all usual and ordinary.Sitting at your kitchen table you might not notice that something in this environment is valuable. Do you know what it is? It’s YOU. You are valuable. There is no one just like you in the entire universe.

You might think of yourself as an ordinary person. Nothing remarkable about you. There are so many like you on earth right now – more than seven billion people. As many people as grains of sand in the desert Gobi. You might think that there are so many people that the individual does not matter – that you don’t matter. If you think so, you are mistaken. You matter. You are valuable. You are even powerful.

I must admit that as you are sitting at your kitchen table you could be half asleep, lost in old memories as in cobwebs. Then you are like a grain of sand as so many other grains of sand.

However, sitting at your kitchen table you can also be aware of yourself and of life all around you. Then your thoughts can go to all places, near and far, with curiosity and joy, and so your world becomes larger.

You can sit at your kitchen table with an open heart. Then your love for yourself and others can shine out of you like rays of light, and so your world becomes brighter.

All this you can accomplish – or not – as you are sitting at your kitchen table.
